I'm a night owl because of the time difference.  I start working here at the end of my day, usually about nine or ten at night!  I love to work, and am usually here quite into the wee hours.  I don't have to get up too early, so it's ok.  I seem to do better at night, for some reason, and always have.

You are fortunate in this aspect . Actually one can concentrate more in the silence.

I suppose.  But I'm also used to working in a very noisy environment, and I just tune it all out and do what I have to do.  It's pretty hard to get me flustered at work.

It seems that you have in built filtering system to accept or reject the things as per your liking .

I suppose so.  I've developed it over years because of necessity.  I've worked in a wide variety of environments, and you have to get the work done well no matter what comes up.  I've also survived extreme domestic violence, and I know that I could do what I needed to do even under fire.  Maybe that's the thing, I've just done so many different things that nothing really bothers me now( except my mother).  Which comes in really, really handy sometimes!!!

I love to work at night as well and do not pay much attention to the clock except when I have to get up after 4 hours of sleep.  I have had this pattern for quite some time.  My greatest ideas happen at night - seems to be a renewal of energy.  Nothing can be down then - I like to get my planning done for the next day and curl up with a good book - HR or management driven.  I don't watch the tube at night much but it is heavenly to have my favourite music on and not have any demands because the kids are in bed.  Yep, I can stay out all night.

I'm talking about the time difference between me and America.  Depending on where they are in that country, there can be a six to ten hour time difference, with them being earlier than me.  So, late at night for me is early in the morning for them.  I know that Hong Kong is about nine hours ahead of me, with me being earlier than them.  What is the time difference between me and you?

I have been functioning on about 3-4 hours sleep the past 3 weeks. This has got to stop!  I love the silence at night though. Toronto has an annual arts event called Nuit Blanche, and it is on this coming Saturday. I am hoping to attend it.

Best head to bed now.....

oh, that's funny, that is! I'm fifty, and I could use alot more sleep than I get! But when I was young, I could work all day, party all night, take a two-hour nap, and start all over again. I even had two full-time jobs for awhile, one during the day and one during the night, five days a week. I could not do that now if my life depended on it!

Past is past .As one grows older physical activity seems to be lesser , may be for that one needs less sleep. Lying in the bed and sleeping is not the same thing .

This is true. I often lie in the bed without sleeping, sometimes for no reason at all. But I can't function well if I don't get at least eight hours of sleep now. I think that I'm very active, since I frequently work 12-hour days, and I don't even take the weekends off. I'm working those days, as well. I think maybe we can overwork ourselves sometimes.

jagdev - not due to time management. yes, I did put in long hours of work, but the staying up late is because I enjoy watching my foreign flicks and chatting with my family which is a 12-13 hour time zone away.

dear tapan, you are quoting the old saying but with better health care and good lifestyle , people like me refuse to grow old. i go for 5 kms brisk walk followed by 30 minutes yoga everday in the morning. i have 8 hours sound sleep including 30 minutes afternoon nap. i must tell that i intend to keep it this way for the next 20 years. infact, age is in the mind , otherwise i can quote, though it is not my thought,- 'horses and men never grow old'.

point taken. loss of sleep for chat with family 12 hours away in time zone reflects very well on you .

I agree that it is a superb reason looi to have so little sleep for a very good reason.  Ok, so as I said earlier, I am a night owl and do not need more than 4 hours of sleep.  I have been doing this for years, especially since age 40 and I am ...(ahem)... older than that now.  My energy level is very high.  I feel peace within myself so ...  I take what I require.  Having one hour is too little, that is for sure.  I am thrilled to have the Night Owls group available.

Tapan - I am in agreement with you in that the older I get the less sleep I need.  I would say 5 to 6 hours works for me. When I was younger, I needed at least 7 or 8 hours to feel rested and energetic the following day. I hate for the day to end and so I find myself staying up longer at least through the work week.
